Connectionless-Mode End System to Intermediate System Protocol

CONS ES-IS uses different PDU type with this structure:

1. A fixed part, used by all PDU types;

2. following protcol field depending on PDU type (not ENC, ESC, SRH).

Holding Time (2 bytes)

Protocol: ISO 10030 / CONS ES-IS

PDU Part: RD (Redirect)

Field: holding time

Length: 2 bytes

Contents: maximum precessing time.

The holding time indicates the maximum time an intermediate system (IS) may take to process the current PDU.

Address Mask Length (1 byte)

Protocol: ISO 10030 / CONS ES-IS

PDU Part: RD (Redirect)

Field: address mask length

Length: 1 byte

Contents: length of the following address mask.

Since ISO addresses and address masks vary in length, the current length must be indicated.

Address Mask (n bytes)

Protocol: ISO 10030 / CONS ES-IS

PDU Part: RD (Redirect)

Field: address mask

Length: n bytes

Contents: address mask.

Since ISO addresses and address masks vary in length, the current length must be indicated within the previous 'address mask length' field.

SNPA Mask Length (1 byte)

Protocol: ISO 10030 / CONS ES-IS

PDU Part: RD (Redirect)

Field: SNPA mask length

Length: 1 byte

Contents: length of the following SNPA mask length.

Since ISO SNPA masks vary in length, the current length must be indicated.

SNPA Mask (n bytes)

Protocol: ISO 10030 / CONS ES-IS

PDU Part: RD (Redirect)

Field: SNPA mask

Length: n bytes

Contents: SNPA mask.

Since ISO SNPA masks vary in length, the current length must be indicated within the previous 'SNPA mask length' field.

SNPA Address Length (1 byte)

Protocol: ISO 10030 / CONS ES-IS

PDU Part: RD (Redirect)

Field: SNPA address length

Length: 1 byte

Contents: length of the following SNPA address.

Since ISO SNPA addresses vary in length, the current length must be indicated.

SNPA Address (n bytes)

Field: SNPA address

Length: n bytes

Contents: SNPA address.
