Field: station ID

Length: 8 bytes

Contents: unique station ID.

Because FDDI stations can be connected to a ring with up to three adapters, the MAC address only identifies the single adapter but not the station - this is done by the station ID.

The station ID is made up ad follows:

bytes 1-2:

Configurable / not restricted. May be used in order to build network management domains.

bytes 3-8:

MAC address of one FDDI adapter attached to the station.

I/G and U/L bits are always set to zero.
