Ring Parameter Server -RPS

Adapters ask for current ring parameters during station insertion process by station initialization request MAC frames directed to the ring parameter server (RPS). The adapter's default values have to be changed e.g. in case of extended ring length (causing a token rotation time exceeding the default value).

The RPS also may change any adapter's parameter values by unsolicited station initialization MAC frames. The RPS may also urge adapters to get off the ring (remote station MAC frame).

These parameters may be changed by the RPS:

- physical drop number

- local ring number

- allowed access priority

- soft error report timer

- authorized environment
