Fx Channels
B-ISDN networks have five different management information channels: F1 to F5. Information flow F4 and F5 are located on the ATM layer (cell layer). F4/F5 information use OAM cells.
F4
Information flow F4 performs segment and end-to-end management on VP basis. A 'segment' is a link between ATM cross connects. End-to-end connections may consist of a chain of multiple paths.
F5
Information flow F5 (on VC basis) performs segment and end-to-end management on VC basis. A 'segment' is a link between end users. End-to-end connections may consist of a chain of multiple channels.
