MVID 29h - Report Soft Error
Destination Address: C0-00-00-00-00-08 (Ring Error Monitor)
Destination Class: 6 (Ring Error Monitor)
Source Class: 0 (ring station)
Subvectors: SVID 02h - NAUN
SVID 0Bh - Physical Drop Number
SVID 2Dh - Isolating Error Count
SVID 2Eh - Non-Isolating Error Count
This frame is used to report soft error events to the ring error monitor (REM).
Soft errors are supposed not to be caused by hardware errors. If a soft error is detected (by any station), a report is sent to the ring error monitor's functional address.
Isolating errors can be located because they are reported by the next downstream station. Non-isolating errors cannot be located in the same way. (It isn't easy to unterstand that the 'receive congestion' error is classified as non-isolating because this error report frame is sent by the adapter that has congestion!)
