Ethernet was first developed by Xerox Corp.; later Intel and Digital Equipment joined the Ethernet development ( - DEC, Intel, Xerox).

1980 the IEEE set up the standardization committee '802'; in 1982 the subcommittees 802.2 (LLC), 802.3 (CSMA/CD=Ethernet), 802.4 (Token Passing Bus), and 802.5 (Token Passing Ring) were initiated. In 1985, the LAN standards were published.
