Inhalt: Zahl der Bytes im SMT-Info-Feld.

Da die Länge der SMT-Daten (SMT Information) variabel ist, muß sie im SMT-Header angegeben werden.

Die maximale SMT-Info-Länge errechnet sich wie folgt:

= [max. Frame-Länge] - [FDDI Header-Länge] - [SMT Header-Länge] - [FDDI Trailer-Länge]

= 4500 - 16 - 20 - 6

= 4458 Bytes

Die Mindestlänge beträgt 0 Byte. Die Höchstlänge von 4458 Bytes wird nur von SMT Echo Frames (ECF) verwendet. Die Höchstlänge aller anderen SMT-Frames liegt bei 4332 Bytes.
