CLP (1 bit)
Protocol: ATM ATM PCI (Cell Layer)
Field: cell loss priority
Length: 1 bit
Contents: indicates if cell may be discarded.
If an ATM switch (or cross connect) suffers from congestion, it will discard cells marked with CLP=1 first.
The CLP bit is set by ATM network access nodes at the UNI in case that a source station exceeds its CIR in order to mark the overhead cells.
This is called usage parameter control.
