Ring Purge Process
The active monitor clears the ring via ring purge MAC frames. All other ring stations have to stop transmission; the active monitor will release a new token.
Ring purge MAC frames are sent by the active monitor under certain conditions:
- If the active monitor just became active monitor by monitor contention.
- Loss of token.
- Corrupted frames.
The active monitor does not have to wait for a free token in order to send a ring purge MAC frame.
Ring purge MAC frames are sent in intervals of 20 milliseconds until one can be received unchanged.
The ring purge process is used for ring reset.
After the ring purge process stopped, the active monitor sends a report to REM or CRS.
