SRF - Status Report Frames
Status report frames are sent unsolicited by FDDI adapters if certain error conditions or error events have been detected.
SRF are sent to a default functional address:
01-80-C2-00-01-00
This functional address must not be mixed up with a similar address '01-80-C2-00-00-00' used by BPDUs (Spanning Tree) in Ethernet LANs. BPDU PCI
SRF are sent permanently after an error occured until (a) a new error event happened or (b) the error condition doesn't exist any longer. SRF are sent in intervals of 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 seconds.
FDDI stations perform self tests every 2 seconds. Therefore, SRF can't be sent in intervals less than 2 seconds.
SRF may report multiple error events or multiple error conditions.
