Largest Frame Size (6 bits) (Token-Ring)

Protocol: Token-Ring RIF / Source Routing RIF PCI (0-30 bytes) (Token-Ring)

Field: RIF / largest frame size

Length: 6 bits

Contents: maximum frame size supported.

This value indicates the maximum number of bytes contained in the information field conveyed on a given route. Source routing bridges will indicate the maximum frame size supported by the attached topology.

Example: If a token-ring frame has to pass an Ethernet segment which only supports frames up to 1518 bytes (1500 bytes of data), the token-ring information field must not contain more than 1500 bytes of data.

If a ring station send a source routing broadcast frame, the largest frame bits are set to FFF=111 (=maximum frame size).
